Blog 4: Argue Your Point!

This week, please write a paragraph to argue for or against one of the following topics (choose one):

  1. When people go on diets, they usually gain weight instead of lose weight.
  2. Smoking should not be allowed on The University of Montana campus.
  3. All children should go to school for at least ten hours a day, six days a week.
I look forward to hearing your arguments! Don't forget to agree or disagree with your classmates.

Good luck!

Heather

  1. Hey, everyone.
I miss you guys so much=(=( and want to go classes,,
As I went to Curry Health Center and got some medicines, I assume that I would attend classes tomorrow.

I agree No.3 because I now think I wanted to do that. When I was elementary school student, I had gone to school six days a week, but after I entered junior high school, the system changed which said students don't have to go school six days a week and just need five days a week. At that time, I was so happy as there were two days for rest. In Japan, we don't have so much homework, of course depends on school or teacher. For me, I remember that I didn't do homework on weekend and enjoyed playing with my friend.
However, I feel regrettable about that, especially after I came here because I noticed that I don't have a custom to study after school. I had just studied before the exam until I came here.As you know, I was member of some basketball teams, so I always went to play basketball with my teammates and was so tired and sleepy whenever I was heading for home. Therefore, I'm now trying to study after school everyday at least five hours. It's not easy for me, but I feel that studying is fun as I can learn many things, for example, new vocabulary, specific information from reading, and the best way to study, then, I think that I want to use those new things.
In conclusion, to study is very important and is not easy, we should acquire a habit to study everyday. Continual studying let us know the joy of it, and we feel that we want to study more unconsciously. That all children go to school for at least ten hours a day, six days a week makes a basic of studying, I think.

  2. Hi Yuuki.

I Agree with you. More time in class better. With the competitive job market of today for future generations they can not be just good, they must be the best. This kind of thing so we learn in a way; studying, studying and studying more!

  3. I disagree with the smoking ban on campus. The campus and an area without coverage and owned a large space. With the ban on smoking in enclosed environments, I completely agree, because nobody wants to smell smoke from other cigarettes, especially for non-smoker.

Outside the university buildings I think there is no problem in smoking, since it is open and airy. In Brazil there are laws that prohibit smoking in public places like bars, restaurants, airports and other locations that has a large flow of people, however, in my opinions, this law and totally illegal and harms individual liberty. For example, a bar is a private institution, so the owner can choose whether or not to smoke inside of your business, however, the government made a law that interferes with the individual choice of the owner, infringing individual liberty.

In today's society the respect are something vital, so if you are smoking in an open place without affecting the health of others can be something without a hitch.

  4. Hi every body ,
I against the third opinion, ”All children should go to school for at least ten hours a day, six days a week” because of many reasons. First of all, it’s unpleasant for children’s attitude and behaviour to spend a lot of time with out of their family, so they may be miss the main source of the breeding “ the education”. That means they might be take their beliefs, information, and reflection from the wrong way or person, and this will affects badly on their ethics. In addition, we know that our children need care ,love ,sympathy, and Guidance from their family especially the parents. Second, the children may be give up studying because they don’t have time to enjoy their lives. It’s a fact that children like to go outside so much, so they need to play at parks or amusements, eat in restaurants, or watch comics. that helps them to be able to understand , relaxed , and more active. Finally, being at home with their family long time help them to be more responsible , and they can take care of their brothers, sisters, and parents, so that keeps the family close together in a wonderful environment. In fact, I like to keep the children at home more time than at school.

    thanks

  5. Hi Yuuki, long time no see you, I hope you feel better now . I was worried for you .
emmm I don't agree with you. because of many reasons that I explain in my writing above , so that shows how I believe in getting education with ethics and guidance more than just getting education .

    thanks

  7. Hi, Gui.
I don't think what people compete is always good because if people focus on competition, they tend to forget to admire other people's opinions or creations.

    Thanks,
    Yuuki

  8. Greeting for you all

I am against the assumption addressed for granted in point one which presume that who practice or go for diet in another word is rather encountering weight losses rather than the otherwise !?

It is quite obvious from the outset that there are no concrete evidences that would support such a notion. In accordance with my closely observations concerning my family members and elsware I didnt recognized such a truthful ground for it , but rather an evidnces that support weight losses instead.

Consequentelly, it is quite apperant that this preassumption is an arbitary one and needs to be proven in a tangible manner.

  9. I am against the notion that says children should work in school for ten hours six days a week. my argument suggest i would say that our life entirely based in a mutual process called education. i agree with those of you who said that there should be a role for the family to mutually educate their children with schools.
Nevertheless I beleive that children in going to school they are gaining confidence which build up and motivate education. For instance in UK children are going to primary school to gain confidence
by means of playing, practicing and sharing works where they do not have to do any homework what so ever!.
As a result I am against the idea that prepare the school to be rather a factory or a company. However I am not against teaching students hard working as a value but to give other values and eduction sources a role to play.

  11. Hi, everyone :D

I agree 1st opinion that people usually gain weight instead of lose weight when they go on diets. I think most women want to be like model's body. Of course, I do. I tried to lose weight many times but you guys know that I couldn't! Instead, I gained 3kg in three weeks. I think that happened to the other women.
First, People try to find quick way for lose weight. For example, people don't eat every meal and just drink water, don't eat meals in carbohydrates, eat very light meal or so on, but it is really hard to continue everyday. So after 2 or 3 days or after lost weight, people would stop and began to eat toooooo much.
Second, people try to find easy way such as using machine witch is just put on their stomachs, or drinking medicines. That people thought "I can eat too much because I put machine on stomach or drink medicine" Put machine and drink medicine are no effect, i think, so that people will gain weight.
Now, you guys know that these people are not healthy. If people try to diet healthy way, they can lost weight. DON'T DO food restriction and DON'T BE lazy! I tell by my self :D I will go to the gym everyday! haha
    I agree No.1.

  12. Hey Yuuki!
I agree with you. When i was elementary school student, my school schedule was changed. I was really happy that I could have fun 2 days!! but recently I am thinking, if I could go to the school 6 days a week, I could learn more!! Learning something hasn't bad things. Also HW, I never got HW except summer break when I went Japanese school! Japanese studying manual should be change. I mean, children go to school 6 days and teacher give them HW.

  13. Hi Nada :D
I agree No.3 but I agree with your opinion too. haha I am really confusing because I can't choose witch is the best way. I think studying a lot is a very important. We have to know many things in child, so we need time for studying. On the other hand,we need LOVE. Yes, children need time for sitting with their parents and time for rest. umm... I agree Yuuki and Nada's opinion. We should put ideas together. How about "Children should go to school 6 days first and third of week" ??

  14. Hi Yuna :D ,

I think that children can learn and get information 5 days per week , as we say in my country " too much strength can break your stick ". I mean they need free time to restart their energy and concentration .On the other hand ,we know children can learn quickly even if they spend less than 10 hours per day , so why we make it hard for them .
    really , if I had this situation , I would be bleak . -_-

    thanks .

  15. again , Hi Yuna :D ,
I couldn't have said it better myself.
In fact , I don't know why that is happened . Might be because they try to postpone their diet each day and eat more and more :D , but I read a fact that the body will have a shock after one month of the hard diet which affects negatively on the diet , so the body may gain weight !!!

  16. Hi, Gui=)

    I strongly agree with you!haha
I think we can smoke everywhere! haha because smoker also have right to smoke, and to smoke makes us relaxed even though it's bad for non-smoker. It's a difficult point,,, which is a superiority smoker's right or non-smoker's right? Of course, smoking is not good for our health but also has advantage, like make us forget some problems of us.
In Japan, we have smoking room in restaurant or university. I suppose it's a good idea as a chimney doesn't go out from that room. I suggest The university of Montana should do that! =)

    Thank you,
    Yuuki

  17. Hey, Nada =)
Thank you for worrying about me.I'm getting better!

I got your opinion, but I still disagree because the duty of children is studying as same as duty of parents is bringing up their children. So, I know that children want to enjoy their life to play with friends or family, but it's also important to find out how they enjoy studying or spending time at school. I could discover that now, to know new thing or talk with my friends to get her opinion is so fantastic! Don't you think so? I mean children should make their life be pleasant in the situation which is given someone by themselves.

    Thank you=)

  18. Hi Yuna
I should agree with what you say about the problem on gaining weight ?!
It is the person who practice the diet . This sort of persons does not well commeted to their program , instead they break the rules and start eating. So the process of stop start business in carrying out diet will lead to weight losess. Therefore and since the assumption was misleading which leads to inconclusive point one might conclude once again that this assumption is an arbitary one
